Water Tower
The City of Cavalier recently replaced the water tower. This new tower is in operation and holds 250,000 gallons of water. A part of the construction of the water tower, the city installed a new water main.
This project is financed through the drinking water state revolving loan fund program. We have been allocated $1,458,772 in SRF loan forgiveness and $1,022,500 in a grant from the state water commission. The funds to repay the loan will be collected using a volumetric rate system meaning the water tower rates are based on consumer water usage. The water tower rate is $3.78 per 1,000 gallons consumed. This rate will also cover the cost of the new ground storage reservoir.
Ground Storage Reservoir
The current ground storage reservoir will be replaced in the fall of 2021 with the project completed in spring of 2022. It will hold 225,000 gallons of water which will compliment the storage capacity of the new water tower.
We have been allocated $878,500 in a grant from the state water commission. The city will also use funds from Operation Prairie Dog which allocates oil and gas tax revenue for municipal infrastructure. This significantly reduces the community cost of the project with the city, residents, and businesses paying an estimated $1,900,000 for a combined project that is over $5 million. The volumetric water rate of $3.78 per 1,000 gallons will also be used to pay for the ground storage reservoir.
